First Diaco equipped surgery opens in Ireland

Diaco Limited has installed the first diaco® dental chair in Ireland to the Ballymun Clinic, Dublin 9.

The unit was delivered and commissioned in June with staff receiving their onsite training in July. After being used in a busy clinic for the past 5 months we asked Sarah McMinigal, Senior Dental Surgeon, for special needs the difference the diaco dental chair has made:

'It really has made life a lot easier when it comes to treating patients who are unable to transfer from their wheelchair to the dental chair. It's easier for me (the dentist), my dental nurse and the patients!

The patients are delighted with it: they find it very comfortable and feel secure. They feel very privileged to be able to use it, especially when I tell them it's the first one of its kind in Ireland.

Dentist & PatientFor me, it makes access for treatment so much easier, making it a lot less stressful. It's also much more comfortable for me as I'm not stretching and straining my back.

The unit is also very easy to use, a lot more so than I expected. It takes very little time to set up.

It's ideal for us, as we are on the second floor, so using a unit which requires a motor to be placed under the floor is not an option, which was a huge factor when it came to choosing our unit'

The second diaco® dental chair in Ireland is being delivered in February to Dublin Dental School & Hospital, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2.

Dublin Dental School is a world renowned is a centre of excellence for patients who require consultation and specialist advanced care not generally available elsewhere.

As the largest dental education and training organisation in Ireland, the Dublin Dental School and Hospital has 650+ staff and students with responsibility for dental education, research and patient services.

Note for editor

a. The diaco® mobile dental chair is suitable for use with any standard manual or electric wheelchair, so that patients with any type of disability can be treated. The chair's 500kg capacity means there is no restriction on a patient's weight and problems associated with treating obese able-bodied patients are overcome, as the unit can also be used for those patients not confined to a wheelchair. The backrest and headrest on the diaco® dental chair can be adjusted to any position. For wheelchairs with integral headrests, the unit's backrest and headrest can be removed or used as a head support in conjunction with the wheelchair's headrest.

b. The diaco® dental chair is now being used across the UK by the National Health Service and also in Ireland and Australia.
